What Read On It Reviewers Do
- Read an assigned opening chapter of fiction.

Writers & Authors
Published and unpublished authors may apply. Publishing history helps us understand your background, but it does not determine your Read On It reviewer level.
Thoughtful Readers
Strong reviewers can explain not only whether something worked for them, but why it worked—or where their interest, understanding, or confidence changed.
Constructive Communicators
Read On It feedback should be candid without being dismissive. The purpose of the report is to give the writer useful information they can act on.
How the Reviewer Process Works
Submit Your Application
Tell us about your writing background, publishing history, review experience, genre interests, availability, and reader preferences.
Application Review
Read On It reviews applications to determine whether an applicant is a good fit for the reviewer pool and which genres and age categories may be appropriate for assignments.
Begin at the Beginner Level
Accepted reviewers enter the program as Beginner reviewers and receive assignments based on availability, genre fit, and program needs.
Complete Reviews
Use the standardized Read On It report to provide thoughtful, reader-centered feedback on assigned opening chapters.
Advance Through the Program
Successfully completed reviews build your Read On It experience and allow you to progress toward Intermediate and Expert reviewer status.
Confidentiality Matters
Many Read On It submissions may be unpublished manuscripts or works in progress. Reviewers are expected to treat every assigned manuscript as confidential.
- Do not share or distribute assigned manuscript material.
- Do not use the manuscript for any purpose outside the assigned review.
- Do not contact the writer directly unless authorized by Read On It.
- Do not upload manuscript material to generative AI systems or unauthorized third-party services.
- Disclose potential conflicts of interest before beginning an assignment.

What Read On It Is Looking For
